Dr Gilberto Lopez

Hi there! I'm Dr. Lopez, an applied social scientist, creator, and academic with a passion for democratizing science and knowing. I am currently an Assistant Professor in the School of Transborder Studies at Arizona State University, where I teach and research issues affecting Latino communities.

I'm the founder and director of El Laboratorio, an award-winning research and design studio dedicated to creating effective and culturally-responsive science communication projects. 

Born the son of Mexican immigrant farmworkers in California's Central Valley, I 've always been driven by a deep-rooted desire to advocate for social justice and equal opportunities. My formal education started at Modesto Junior College, followed by a BA from Fresno State University, MA from Southern Methodist University, MPH from Johns Hopkins University, and a doctorate from Harvard University.
